Increasing knowledge base and building credible evidence

Spiegelbild seeks to support the next generation of leaders by improving their emotional intelligence (what is ongoing in oneself) and social intelligence (what is ongoing in relationship with others). Fostering empathy in leadership is a keystone of this approach.

We recognize that the research base around the benefits of equine-assisted coaching in building leadership skills is currently lacking. Partnering with a horse is an excellent way of developing leadership competency.

Spiegelbild’s goal is to contribute to building a strong knowledge base, reliable data and credible evidence to prove the effectiveness of this approach for building empathetic leadership competency and capacity.

“Horses in the Classroom - Building Empathetic Leaders at MRU”

SoTL grant, Mount Royal University, Calgary, AB, Canada

January 2022 - March 2023

This collaborative project in the context of social innovation and social work will explore the potential of equine-assisted coaching to build empathetic leadership in university education. The goal is to centre empathy and land-based-learning in how we think about and activate leadership qualities in students.

The project will allow students to engage in experiential learning, with an eye to re-imagining the educational approaches for leadership at Mount Royal University and beyond.
